The German Design Council in its capacity as an independent and internationally active institution awards the prestigious German Design Award every year. It honors designers and their unique designs for pioneering products and projects. One of the “Special Mention” winners of the German Design Award 2015 is the Boomerang Chair from the Neutra Furniture Collection by VS.

The German Design Award is given once a year by the renowned German Design Council. This independent and internationally active institution was established as a foundation in 1953 by a resolution of the German Bundestag. Since then it has represented the German design world and supported German companies in communicating their design expertise. The aim: to raise the wider public’s awareness of all aspects of design.

Among the outstanding products entered for the German Design Award 2015 and winning a “Special Mention” is the Boomerang Chair from the Neutra Furniture Collection by VS.

The Boomerang Chair was designed by Neutra in the 1940s as an item of easy furniture in different versions for a number of his Californian architectural projects. The sweeping side sections and straight round rods made of oak are, in combination with the strap covering, a characteristic feature of the era. The sliding back cushion is both elegant and functional, as is the seat cushion with coloured fabric cover placed on top.
